Solidarity with comrades of the Grupo Internacionalista! An injury to one is an injury to all!
We recently learned about a shocking attack on the family of comrades of the Grupo Internacionalista, Mexican section of the League for the Fourth International (see “Protest Torture Attack on Labor Activists’ Family in Mexico”). We stand in complete solidarity with these comrades who are victims of horrific anti-communist violence apparently carried out with the connivance of Mexican state authorities. The depraved perpetrators of this outrage are the enemies of all those committed to social justice and democratic rights.

    Video: Rape and Women's Rights
IBT supporter Adaire Hannah speaking at a rally on 13 March 2017 protesting against rape culture in Wellington, New Zealand. The rally was organized by students of Wellington East Girls’ College after comments involving rape “jokes” were made on social media by students from the nearby all-boys Wellington College. Her powerful speech clearly resonated strongly with the hundreds of youth in the crowd because it connected the issue of rape to other aspects of women's liberation. It is necessary to struggle against all injustice but socialist revolution is the only way that misogny, racism, xenophobia and other pathologies constantly reproduced by capitalism can be eliminated once and for all. These arguments are further expanded in Marxism, Feminism and Women's Liberation.

2 October 2014 -- Abortion on Demand: Free, Safe and Legal! March for Choice 2014, Dublin

The horrific 2012 case of a young immigrant rape victim, now known as “Ms Y,” who was refused an abortion when suicidal and was eventually forced to a premature caesarean birth at 24 weeks, starkly highlights Ireland’s reactionary abortion laws, including last year’s Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act.

The slogan “free, safe and legal” was prominent on the Third Annual March for Choice in Dublin on 27 September. It was a loud, angry and militant protest in which the IBT marched to the Dail with thousands of other pro-choice supporters to call for the repeal of the Eighth Amendment of the Irish constitution.

We will continue to seek opportunities for debate and discussion with those involved in the ACI and the wider left, but it seems clear that the project is effectively moribund as an opportunity for advancing the cause of revolutionary regroupment.

Austerity is hitting hardest in the regions of the eurozone that were already the poorest, their economies dominated by imperialist multi-nationals and other foreign investment. Workers are fighting back, in different ways and in different circumstances, but are everywhere held back by the politics of their leaders. In Ireland, the fight against austerity has consolidated around one issue, the registering of the population in order to impose household, property and water taxes that will take hundreds of euros from incomes already slashed by tax increases and wage and job cuts. This campaign is a promising beginning, but much more is needed.

1 June 2012 -- English-Canadian protests against “emergency” law aimed at crushing Quebec student strike

A week and a half after the Quebec government passed Bill 78, a draconian law seeking to crush a powerful 15-week student strike against a massive tuition hike, over 2,000 people joined a “pots and pans” demonstration in Toronto on 30 May. The Toronto protest was one of several rallies across English Canada in solidarity with the historic anti-austerity struggle of the Quebecois students. The marches were modeled on the nightly “manifs de casseroles” in Montreal. The Toronto Globe and Mail (30 May) reports:

“Children, their parents, working adults and the elderly have joined the students to demand an end to Bill 78, which bans unauthorized public assemblies and curtails the right to protest. [Quebec] Premier Jean Charest’s government aimed to quell the student strike against a tuition increase by force. Instead, the protest spread.”
In Toronto, IBT comrades carried placards in English and French and distributed our statement Quebec Students Show the Way: For Workers' Strikes to Smash Austerity!. The Quebec student strike, which began in mid-February, has become a flash point of the international struggle against capitalist austerity.

    27 June 2010 -- G-20 Protest in Toronto

On Saturday, 26 June the International Bolshevik Tendency (IBT) participated in a mass demonstration initiated by the trade-union movement against the G-20 gathering in Toronto. During the demonstration, several hundred youths broke away from the main march in an apparent attempt to get through a police cordon surrounding the site of the summit. Over 500 protesters were reportedly arrested from late yesterday afternoon to the early hours of this morning. Drop the charges now!

The G-20 presides over a global order in which tens of thousands of children starve every day. During the last decade, the imperialist powers at the core of the G-20 (including Canada) have killed hundreds of thousands of people in dirty neocolonial wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Emerging from fancy “working dinners” where plans are fine-tuned for how best to offload the global capitalist crisis onto the backs of working people and the poor, the imperialist criminals and their spinmasters cynically denounce the “violence” of a few broken windows and torched cops cars. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.

    1 June 2010 -- Murderous Zionist Attack

On Monday, 31 May the International Bolshevik Tendency participated in an emergency demonstration of over 1,000 people in Toronto to condemn the murderous assault by the Israel Defense Forces on a civilian convoy attempting to deliver aid to the desperate masses of the besieged Gaza Strip. The masters of the Israeli apartheid state would not commit such outrages without the assurance that, at the end of the day, they can count on continued support from their imperialist godfathers—the United States, Britain, Canada et al. The international workers’ movement has a duty to defend the Palestinians and all those seeking to alleviate the misery inflicted by the depraved Zionist racists.

End the Siege of Gaza! Defend the Palestinians! Down With Zionist Terror!

"The SL has certainly acknowledged making a big mistake. But what is missing is a serious attempt to explain how such a blatantly pro-imperialist position could have been adopted in the first place, and why it was not met with immediate, furious internal opposition. Nor is there any real account of how, after three months of defending a social-imperialist line, the ICL suddenly came to realize that 'From the beginning the only revolutionary internationalist position was to demand that all U.S./UN troops get out of Haiti!'”

ALL OUT FOR MUMIA—FRIDAY 28 MARCH!

Today’s Philadelphia Inquirer (27 March) reports:

"A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit ruled that Abu-Jamal must be sentenced to life in prison or get a chance with a new Philadelphia jury, which would decide only whether he should get life in prison or be sentenced - again - to death.

"The judges left intact his first-degree murder conviction, rejecting Abu-Jamal's claim that he deserves an entirely new trial and a chance to prove his innocence."

Mumia Abu-Jamal, the “Voice of the Voiceless”, former Black Panther Party leader and a supporter of MOVE is an innocent man framed up by corrupt, racist Philadelphia police and courts for a murder he did not commit. The IBT, along with a host of other organizations internationally, calls for his immediate freedom. We also call on all our supporters, and everyone concerned with the struggle for social liberation, to participate in the protests called for tomorrow, FRIDAY 28 March. We have listed the ones we know of at this time in the cities where we have branches.

22 May 2007 -- On Thursday 17 May our comrades participated, along with many others, in a series of demonstrations in defense of Mumia Abu-Jamal timed to coincide with US Federal Appeals court hearing regarding his sentence. Well over 500 people demonstrated in Philadelphia, where the hearing took place, while 250 rallied in the San Francisco Bay Area, 100 in London and 75 in Toronto. IBT comrades played a central role in organizing both the London and Toronto united-front demonstrations which featured speakers from a wide variety of political tendencies.

These demonstrations, while modest in size, are significant in that they represent the first internationally coordinated efforts in defense of Mumia in several years. They point to the necessity for reviving the kind of effective mass protests held in August 1995 that saved him from the capitalist machinery of death which is the U.S. judicial system.

The article seems to be a belated attempt to alibi the SL's shameful sectarian role in this important labor action by San Francisco Bay Area longshoremen in solidarity with the oppressed black masses of South Africa in their struggle against apartheid.

Twenty-one years ago, in May 1985, we published the following items on this struggle in Bulletin of the External Tendency of the iSt No. 4:

    Comrades

Your 27 June article, "The future of the left in Ukraine" (www.marxist.com/ukraine-future-left270606-3.htm), names people purporting to be members of your organisation in Ukraine. You should know that some of them appear to be the same cynical crooks who dishonestly pretended to affiliate to various leftist tendencies internationally several years ago. We documented their activities and published their photographs at the time in cooperation with other groups. See our cast list of those involved www.bolshevik.org/ukrscandal/CastList.htm and links to statements from us and other organisations on the scam www.bolshevik.org/ukrscandal/statements.htm.

    Yours for principled politics,

The slogan which was posted on indymedia reads:

"For Militant Labor-Centered Defense Against la Migra/Minutemen Attacks!" and the reverse of the sign says "Stop All Deportations! Full Citizenship Rights for Immigrants!"

Marches took place that same day in many cities in the San Francisco Bay Area including 17,000 in Oakland, 30,000 in San Jose and 2000 in Hayward. 11 October 1997--We've had a number of inquiries, since the launching of this web page, about the Adobe Acrobat format. There were important reasons for choosing this format: cross-platform compatibility, ease of reading, the possibility in the future of adding hyper links in documents for cross-referencing, and preventing tampering or alteration of the documents. This is why a number of organizations on the web currently post their documents in Adobe Acrobat format, and we believe the number of groups doing so will likely increase. We're also aware that there are some, due to technical restrictions (for example, a machine slower than a 486 or with a small amount of memory), unable to access our documents. We are posting two documents in ASCII format here in response to a special request: articles on the politics of the ICL, A Dismal Symmetry and WV De-Collectivized.

11 October 1997--The New York BT recently sent a letter of protest (click the preceding link) to organizers of a meeting against police violence. The organizers invited two U.S. Marshals to speak at the meeting.
